Counterspace is an expressive, display typeface designed to help encourage people to be themselves and not hide behind walls they put up. Even though other typefaces have more structure, my type will be designed to break those restraints and represent itself in its true nature. Every letter begins with a solid shape, representing the barriers we put up, and the counter represents us showing who we really are
When creating a typeface, it's all about telling a story through creation. When designing my typeface, I focused on telling my story of bullying and concealing yourself. Growing up, I always tried to fit in with the crowd because I always felt ashamed of some aspects of myself. I was always worried about what other people thought about me, but that was the old me. Coming to know who I am as a person and how much I matter to people, I focused on creating a typeface, with the message of encouraging people not to hide behind obstacles they put up for themselves.
